Helitrax has been in operation since 1982 and remains Colorado’s ultimate heli-skiing experience. A day with Helitrax includes six runs, approximately 10,000 to 14,000 vertical feet of skiing, a morning briefing, avalanche safety equipment (transceiver, shovel, probe and avalanche airbag pack), powder skis or snowboard, snacks throughout the day, a water bottle, and après ski.
Helitrax is based out of Telluride, Colorado, but provides helicopter skiing for guests and residents of various towns across Colorado. Our regional heli-ski program provides charters from Vail and Aspen. You can learn more about these trips here. Telluride is easily accessible by flight charter, directly flights into both Telluride and Montrose, and by car.
DAYS A WEEK
During our operating season, Telluride Helitrax is open seven days a week. We recommend booking as far in advance as is possible for your trip. You can give us your preferred heli-ski days as well as other options that might work for your schedule. January is typically our quietest month, but seats fill up fast with good snow conditions. Some of our deepest powder days have occurred in January. February and March are our busiest months, if you plan on skiing this time of year, definitely book at least a few months out. The beginning of April is another less busy time for us, but spring conditions are some of our favorite. If you like to ski big lines, consider skiing or snowboarding with us towards the end of March or in early April.
TRULY THE BEST
Colorado’s San Juan Mountains are truly some of the best mountains to experience heli-skiing. Our terrain is mostly above tree line, so we get to consistently ski off summits, in big bowls, and among other high-alpine terrain features. If helicopter skiing or snowboarding is on your bucket list, we make it easy to check off this one-of-a-kind adventure. Plus, we are conveniently located out your back door in Colorado.
