Telluride Helitrax is a proud member of Heli-Ski US and meets their Heli-Skiing Safety & Operating Guidelines.

Heli-Ski U.S. Association is a nonprofit corporation whose members represent the very best helicopter skiing operators in the United States. Telluride Helitrax has proudly been a member of Heli-Ski US from their inception over 30 years ago. Telluride Helitrax was one of the founding members and worked with the other members to establish the highest safety and operating standards in the industry.

Why a Heli-Ski US operation?

Heli-Ski US certified members not only share a passion for powder, but we drive for excellence and high safety standards. Members are required to follow proprietary Heli-Skiing Safety & Operating Guidelines (HSOG). Telluride Helitrax meets and exceeds minimum experience and training requirements for our guides, helicopter pilots, and our professional avalanche and weather forecasting teams. Being a certified member allows us to take great pride in our professionalism and the quality of experience we deliver to you, the client.

We became a certified member through a rigorous audit for compliance with the HSOG program. We go through a performance review process every three years and are judged on our operations, guide skills, our training programs, flight documentation, and emergency response preparation. The Heli-Ski US HSOG performance review program is the only one of its kind in the United States. By skiing with us, you are choosing to heli-ski with one of the safest operations around.

Is Helicopter Skiing Safe?

In the industry, Telluride Helitrax has earned a reputation as one of the most experienced and safest operations in North America. As a whole, we use the best equipment in the industry, each of our clients is equipped with an up-to-date avalanche transceiver (beacon), shovel, and probe. Additionally, we require that each of our clients use an airbag backpack when skiing with us. We follow rigorous safety procedures to make sure our clients are as safe as possible each day we operate. Our terrain selection is carefully evaluated before you even step foot in the door to make sure our risk is as mitigated as possible each day we ski.

While Telluride Helitrax takes a professional approach to safety, there are still inherent risks associated with heli-skiing in the backcountry. We work with Heli-Ski US to meet standards and protocols that are created to establish as safe an environment and experience as possible for our clients. We hope you will choose to spend your helicopter ski or snowboard holiday with Helitrax and allow us to share with you our professional approach. Think snow!
